The Restorffs Bryggjarí was until August 2007 next föroya bjór one of two breweries of the Faroe Islands . It was founded in 1849 by MC Restorff in the capital Tórshavn .

MC Restorff was Danish of German descent. He came to the Faroe Islands in 1840. At first he was an apprentice baker and then set up his own brewery in 1849, which was owned by the Restorffs family until 2002. The Restorffs are among the most influential families in Tórshavn. They also owned the Hotel Hafnia from 1951 to 2004.

The brewery produced nine different types of beer in 2005, including a Christmas and an Easter beer, and one called Mungát , which alludes to the sheep letter of 1298 where Faroese beer was called that. But the most common was the Pilsener .

This beer was not available outside the Faroe Islands.

In addition to the beer range, there was also a lemonade and mineral water production, which was transferred to Føroya Bjór in 2005 .

The Vertshúsið Restorff in Niels Finsens gøta was one of the most famous eateries in town for several years. The glass art by Tróndur Patursson as part of the interior design was worth seeing .

Production was finally stopped in August 2007.

In the Faroese language it is important to distinguish between bryggjarí brɪdʒaˈrʊi (brewery) and bryggjari ˈbrɪdʒarɪ (brewer). The respective stress on the syllables corresponds to that in German.
