Gloor, a trained drawing teacher, was mostly a full-time teacher and, since 1992, also as a cartoonist.

First published in 1992 was the comic Matter , the story of the Aargau king Bernhard Matter, who "sold well" and was "one of the most successful Swiss comics" .

It deals with local Swiss history. In 1996, `` Meyer und Meyer - when Aarau was the capital of Switzerland '' was published for the first time. The historical comic tells the story of Johann Rudolf Meyer Senior and Junior, two of the most influential Aargau personalities of the 18th century. Starting with a small cloth trade, Meyer Senior and his son built up a successful textile company in Aarau. Through global trade, they eventually became the richest citizens of the city. In the 2015 edition, the comic will be supplemented with a comprehensive historical appendix by Marc Griesshammer, historian and curator of the Aarau City Museum.

His graphic novel `` The Karma Problem '', published in 2015, tells of his illness from multiple sclerosis . Beginning in 2013, it should be "the documentation of his healing, but reality has not adhered to the default, the suffering got worse" . "Drawing picture stories is an important part of my identity and I had to look for ways in which I could keep this important part of my personality," says Reto Gloor himself. His graphic novel tells "subjectively and without pathos about the course of MS," she said Week of the day as well as “always with a touch of irony” . In addition, philosophical reflections and the desire for professional independence are important components of the story.

“The Karma Problem is an amazing comic in several ways. On the one hand, it conveys something about a disease that we all know without understanding it. On the other hand, “The Karma Problem” is not hopeless despite the incurability of multiple sclerosis, ” said SRF Kultur.

style

Until his illness Gloor drew in expressive black and white in the style of the Ligne claire , in 2011 he was no longer able to use the pencil in a controlled manner. Since then he has been drawing with a mouse and computer, but has remained true to his simple, clear style. He does not draw “on the computer,“ just because there is no other way ”, but because it creates“ tension ”. It is as if he was at the beginning - but with all the experience he had gathered, ”says the BZ Basel.
