Revelation (English for "Revelation") is a song by Troye Sivan .
Emergence
The song Revelation was released in July 2018 by the Australian singer and songwriter Troye Sivan , who recorded it together with the Icelandic band Sigur Rós . This was also used for a first trailer for the film Boy Erased . Revelation is also the theme song of the film, in which the singer can be seen in the role of Gary, who takes part in a program in which homosexuals are to be reversed in twelve steps and which is strictly based on the Bible. In the film, the song can be heard roughly in the middle, when the protagonist Jared goes home with a man after an art exhibition, simply to share his bed and experience intimacy with another man.
Sivan himself outed himself in a moving video on Youtube in 2013. At the age of 15, he had come out to his parents. Sivan stated that he was determined to appear on the Boy Erased soundtrack in order to be involved in the film not only as an actor but also musically. So he wrote the song spontaneously with Jónsi from Sigur Rós after they had seen a finished scene of the film.
The song was released in July 2018. The complete soundtrack , which includes Revelation at the beginning and at the end, was released as a download by Back Lot Music on October 26, 2018 and is due to be released on CD on November 2, 2018.
reception
Variety's Peter Debruge describes Revelation as "terrific" and counts the song as one of the two heartbreaking ballads on the soundtrack.
Joshua Bote from the industry magazine Billboard thinks that Sivan sounds absolutely breathtaking in the haunted ballad with the post-rock elements and is sure of a nomination for the song at the upcoming Academy Awards .
