Rex Raab

Rex Raab (born April 7, 1914 in London , † March 18, 2004 in Filderstadt ) was a British architect and anthroposophist . Raab also worked as an urban planner, interior designer and furniture designer. He was responsible for parts of the interior design of the Goetheanum .

Life

Raab studied architecture from 1931 at the Northern Polytechnic (today: University of North London ) in London. After working in various London offices, he graduated in 1938 from the Royal Institute of British Architects , of which he was a member. After he became a member of the Anthroposophical Society in April 1935 , he conducted plastic studies at the Goetheanum in Dornach from 1936 to 1939 .

Raab worked as a craftsman at the Free Waldorf School in Stuttgart - the first Waldorf school - and designed furniture for the Erwin Behr furniture factory in Wendlingen am Neckar . In addition to his involvement in the anthroposophical working group, he has been running an architecture office in Engelberg since 1954 . In addition to building schools and kindergartens for the Waldorf movement, he participated in the interior design of the Goetheanum in the 1960s and 1970s. In addition to designing the Great Hall, he was also involved in the cloakroom area and the expansion of the English Hall. In Berlin he designed the Church of the Christian Community together with Helmuth Lauer .

He also designed the pedagogical and social center in Dortmund , the Engelberg Waldorf School, the Ekkharthof in Lengwil and was involved in the construction of the Rudolf Steiner School in Salzburg .

Rex Raab was married to the pianist Grete Scherzer .
