Rexrodt

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rexrodt is a German family name . The name bearers come from a Hessian - Thuringian family. The spelling of the name is also: Rexroth , Rexrode, Reckrodt, Rixrath.

origin

The name is derived from a place name near Schwebda / Werra, which was called Reystras or Reystrade in 1337 (see Reckrodt ) and was called Rexraide (= Rexrode) in the 15th century. The name has been retained in the nearby field names "Rexrode" and Rexerode / Rexerodt ". Above Rexrode there is a younger settlement, which has been preserved in the field names Rex-Rod or the rexrots. According to Karl Rexrodt, the place is near Schwebda "Founding site of the Reckrodt knight family , from which the Rexrodt family emerged": At Schwebda, a knight von Reckrodt, who held the office of Rotenburg / Fulda and also called himself a knight of Rotenburg, and a citizen of Eschweg owned an annual gradient 1337 the monastery Heydau (Landau`s desert localities).

distribution

While the noble von Reckrodt family was mentioned in a document as early as 1253, the middle-class family can only be identified from 1449 with Ditmar Rexrode , who is in Eschwege / Werra. In Eschwege, the family provided council members, Augustinians and gunsmiths. The most numerous of the family appeared from around 1480 as mayors, council members and church elders in Wanfried / Werra. The branch of the family called Rexroth (Erbach-Michelstädter line) begins in Erbach / Odenwald in 1645 with master blacksmith Johann Barthel Rexerod , and comes from the Wanfrieder family. Many Rexrodt have emigrated, especially according to the Bremen and Hamburg passenger lists, mostly to America, and write Reckrodt, Reckrod, Rexrode, Rexroat and de Rixrath or Rixrath (Argentina) there.
