Peter Niemeyer (born November 22, 1983 in Hörstel-Riesenbeck ) is a former German soccer player who was most recently under contract with the second division club SV Darmstadt 98 . He preferred to play in defensive midfield, but could also be used in defense. He has been sports director at Preußen Münster since July 2020 , having previously worked as an assistant coach and youth coordinator at FC Twente Enschede in the 2019/20 season .
Career
society
Peter Niemeyer started playing soccer with his youth club SV Teuto Riesenbeck in 1987 and joined Borussia Emsdetten in 1996 . In July 1999, Niemeyer moved to the Dutch football club FC Twente Enschede . He made his debut in the Eredivisie in April 2003.
Niemeyer played 106 games for FC Twente Enschede before moving to the 1st Bundesliga for SV Werder Bremen in January 2007 . In the following season he came on three missions. Niemeyer scored his first Bundesliga goal on the 7th match day of the 2007/08 season against Arminia Bielefeld . In the final of the UEFA Cup on May 20, 2009, which Werder Bremen played in Istanbul against Shakhtar Donetsk , Niemeyer was in the starting line-up. The Ukrainians won the game 2-1 after extra time. A few days later, Bremen won the DFB Cup with a 1-0 win over Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the final. Niemeyer came on in the 59th minute for Frank Baumann .
After 32 games for Werder Bremen in the 1st Bundesliga as well as five UEFA Cup appearances, nine games in the Europa League and one Champions League appearance, Niemeyer moved to Hertha BSC in August 2010 for a year on loan in the 2nd Bundesliga . The Berliners also secured a purchase option, which automatically came into effect when Hertha rose again to the 1st Bundesliga. Before Fabian Lustenberger , Niemeyer was the captain of the Hertha team until 2013 .
In the summer of 2015, he moved to the newly promoted Bundesliga SV Darmstadt 98 . In the summer of 2018, his contract with the second division team expired. He then ended his active career.
National team
Niemeyer played six games for the German U-21 national team under coach Dieter Eilts . In the summer of 2006 he took part in the U-21 European Championship in Portugal.
