Review writer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The review writer (also recess writer , receipt writer ) was a mining official who in the Middle Ages and in the early modern period worked as an accountant at the mining office until the management principle was abolished. The job of the reviewer was very extensive and required a sound knowledge of mining and a good knowledge of mathematics. The arithmetic master Adam Ries was employed as a review writer at the Annaberg Mining Office in 1524 and as a review writer at the Marienberg Mining Office from 1529 to 1537.

activity

The review writer prepared a report for the trades on the operational processes every quarter . In particular, these were the number of miners who had retired and the number of shifts. He worked out the recess tables on the economic condition of the respective mine and the results in the recess book . This recorded the amount of ore extracted and the price achieved for it, as well as the weekly wages paid by the shift supervisor.

The reviewer was commissioned to check the mining invoices drawn up by the mine shift supervisors and to defend them if necessary (objections). On the basis of the mine bills, he had to prepare a quarterly report for the owner of the shelf about the status of the mine ownership and about the outstanding penalties. He also calculated the funding rates and then entered them in the review book. The recorder also checked the steelworks register, in which the ore deliveries from each mine were recorded. He also compared the steelworks register with the ore delivery slips reported in the mine registers. This was necessary so that the ore deliveries from the mines to the smelters would not be embezzled. The mines had to transfer the tithe to the tithe from the profits generated .
