Rhagades predotae is a butterfly fromthe ram family (Zygaenidae).

features

The moths have a fore wing length of 9.0 to 10.0 millimeters. There is no difference in size or color between males and females. The head, thorax and abdomen are black. The sensors consist of 34 to 36 segments. The forewings are black and have a typical red-violet sheen. The hind wings are gray-black, the discal region is slightly translucent. In the male, the pointed end of the uncus is beak-shaped. The distal part is heavily sclerotized, the basal part has a rectangular shape. Tegumen and Vinculum have the characteristics typical of the subgenus: the rear part of the tegumen has a characteristic indentation in which the base of the uncus is located. The uncus has a heavily sclerotized, conical tip. The vinculum is not very severely sclerotized. The blades are longer and narrower than Rhagades amasina . The proximal area is rectangular, the distal end of the valves is expanded ventrally by two small tooth-like tips. The aedeagus has a long, straight cornutus, occasionally one or two very small tooth-like sclerosis are still present. The ostium is wide and slit-shaped, the prebursa is heavily sclerotized and has a ring-like structure distally. The ductus bursae is attached laterally, slender, translucent and tortuous. The corpus bursae is ovoid.

Rhagades amasina is brownish black, shimmers olive green and is onlynative tothe eastern Mediterranean . The dark green ram ( Rhagades pruni ) is more bluish green, has no red-violet sheen and does not occur in central, southern and eastern Spain. Both species differ genitally morphologically very strongly from Rhagades predotae .

The egg has not yet been described.

The caterpillar reaches a length of up to 14 millimeters. The head is dark brown and has light brown markings. The sternum is black and the belly is orange. The back is black and brown on both sides. The sides are gray-white, the belly is yellow. The warts on the back are brown with short brown bristles, the warts on the side are dark brown.

The pupa is dark brown, the cocoon is white and egg-shaped; it is woven onto a leaf of the food plant.

distribution

Rhagades predotae is common in central, southern and eastern Spain . Bushy meadows by rivers or springs are populated with blackthorn ( Prunus spinosa ) vegetation .

biology
