history

The Rheinisches Fastnachtsmuseum e. After a special exhibition in 1996 at the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress in Koblenz, V. took over the exhibits on the Rhenish Carnival in order to fulfill a long-cherished wish of the AKK (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Koblenzer Karneval e.V.) carnivalists and Möhnen in Koblenz: the establishment of a Carnival Museum. The city of Koblenz provided the throat tower of Fort Konstantins , part of the Prussian fortress around Koblenz, with the stipulation that the interior fittings and furnishings should be carried out at the expense of the sponsor.

On April 19, 2001, after clearing and renovation work, the museum was opened. On 350 m² and on two floors, a permanent facility is documented about the origins, backgrounds and forms of the central Rhenish customs, the carnival. As a contrast and informative addition to this, a collection of the Swabian-Alemannic and Basel Carnival can be seen as well as exhibits from the neighboring carnival strongholds of Mainz , Bonn and Cologne as well as Düsseldorf and neighboring areas. Since 2003 the operation has been organized on a voluntary basis by the Koblenz Carnival Association (AKK).
