Martenberg cliff near Adorf

The Rhene-Diemeltal Railway ran from Martenberg near Adorf in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district to Bredelar in North Rhine-Westphalia to the Upper Ruhr Valley Railway . It was built from 1873 to 1875 as a meter-gauge railway to open up the iron mines near Adorf. The driving force was the entrepreneur Weyland from Siegen . The mines "Martenberg" (closed in 1917), "Eckefeld" (closed in 1904), "Christiane" (closed in 1883) in the Rhenetal and "Reinhard" (closed in 1887) in the Diemeltal were connected . There was public freight transport from 1882 (wagon loads) and 1885 ( general cargo ). This line was shut down in 1923 and dismantled in 1925.

Mannesmann mine railway

From 1937 to 1939 a 900 mm mine railway from Mannesmann AG was laid on the old route and operated until 1963. The dump cars (30 pieces available, train length up to 15 cars) were pulled by two Hercules diesel locomotives from Deutz AG with 165 hp each. The former pits the pit Christiane on Martberg are now a museum mine . In Bredelar there were numerous railway systems on which the 900 mm lorries were reloaded onto standard-gauge wagons. The former railway systems have now been completely dismantled and the area is overgrown with trees and bushes.
