Rhipsalis elliptica is a species of plant in the genus Rhipsalis from the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Rhipsalis elliptica has an epiphytic and shrubby growth with pendulous shoots of unlimited growth, arranged in groups of 3 to 4 . The flat, elongated to elliptical, dark green shoot sections are separated from each other by constrictions. They are 6 to 15 inches long and 2.5 to 6 inches wide. Their edges are weakly to severely notched. The areoles carry some wool and occasionally a bristle.
The white flowers appear individually or in groups of up to five and reach a length of 8 to 9 millimeters and a diameter of 1.2 to 2 centimeters. The spherical to elongated fruits are pink to red.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Rhipsalis elliptica is common in the Brazilian states of Minas Gerais , Rio de Janeiro , São Paulo , Paraná and Santa Catarina in forests up to altitudes of 2000 meters.
The first description was published in 1890 by Karl Moritz Schumann . A synonym is Rhipsalis chloroptera F.ACWeber (1898).
Rhipsalis elliptica is in the endangered Red List species the IUCN as " Least Concern (LC) ", d. H. not endangered, classified.
