Rhipsalis pacheco-leonis is a species of plant in the genus Rhipsalis from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Rhipsalis pacheco-leonis grows epiphytic or lithophytic and shrubby with creeping to hanging, irregularly branching shoots of unlimited growth. The never lively branching, rotating to angular shoots have low humps. Terminal compound areoles are rarely present. The areoles are covered with wool and bristles.

The light pink, wheel-shaped flowers appear laterally. The spherical fruits are red.

Systematics, distribution and endangerment

Rhipsalis pacheco-leonis is common in the south of the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo and almost all of Rio de Janeiro . The first description was published in 1918 by Albert Löfgren . The following subspecies are distinguished:

  • Rhipsalis pacheco-leonis subsp. pacheco-leonis
  • Rhipsalis pacheco-leonis subsp. catenulata (Kimnach) Barthlott & NPTaylor

The subspecies differ in the degree of expression of the succulence of their shoots.

About the threat status of Rhipsalis pacheco-leonis and the subspecies Rhipsalis pacheco-leonis subsp. catenulata , there was insufficient data in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in 2002. After the revision of the 2013 list, the species will be classified as " Endangered (EN) ", i. H. listed as endangered and the subspecies Rhipsalis pacheco-leonis subsp. catenulata excluded from the list.
