The Hahnentanz castle stable is the remnant of a former hilltop castle on the western slope of the Falken, northeast of Ittelsburg and approx. 500 meters south of the Falken castle stable in the Unterallgäu district in Bavaria . In the course of time, the castle was called Bussenburg, Altittelsburg, and later Zwickerburg. Only trenches can be seen.

history

There were two castles on the site of today's castle stable . The first castle was significantly larger than the next, was owned by the imperial general Gerold vom Bussen and was completely built over. Until 1152 the castle was called "Ittelsburg" (later "Altittelsburg"). The ownership of this castle later passed to Diepold Zwicker von Memmingen . In 1426 he became the village lord of Ittelsburg, which he bought from Konrad Leutkircher. His son Hans Zwicker rebuilt the castle on the same spot in 1450, which has since been called "Zwickerburg". Zwicker developed into a robber baron and exercised violence against the citizens of Kempten . On April 25 and 28, 1457 around 200 citizens from Kempten set the castle on fire and devastated it. Hans Zwicker was captured and taken to Kempten, where he died as a result of his wounds. The city of Kempten was obliged to pay 600 guilders to the heirs of Zwicker. The castle was not rebuilt after the devastation. In 1496 ownership of the Hahnentanz castle stables passed to the von Pappenheim family . The Burgstall is now a listed building.
