Fellheim Castle

The Fellheim Castle is located in the municipality Fellheim in the district of Unterallgäu in Bavaria . This is a listed building.

history

The first construction of the castle dates back to 1557 and was built by Sebastian Reichlin von Meldegg as a Kemptic fiefdom. The castle was destroyed in 1633 and rebuilt from 1635 onwards. In the second half of the 18th century, the castle was rebuilt. The palace chapel was rebuilt in 1773. In 2012, the main building housed the private nursing home “Johanneshof Schloss Fellheim” . The current head of the Reichlin von Meldegg family, Georg Reichlin von Meldegg, lives with his family near Vienna and visited the castle in 2004 and 2005.

Building description

The castle is located in the middle of the Fellheim community and is a three- story plastered building . The castle is covered with a hipped roof . At all four corners of the castle there are octagonal towers, which are covered with an onion dome. The beaver tail covered hip roof is on the ridge having a ridge turret provided, also with a bulb hood. The former farm buildings are located on the north side of the castle. These are built in three wings around the courtyard.

Castle chapel

The castle chapel is dedicated to Johann von Nepomuk and is located in the southern part of the west wing. The square space, one on the east wall Herrschaftsloge located is provided with a recess ceiling. By a pressed sheet chorus the rectangular closes chancel at. This is flat and rounded on the south side and has windows with a curved lintel. The altar consists of a marbled wooden structure and was created around 1773. The curved tabernacle is the base for the altarpiece. St. John Nepomuk is depicted on this. The altar is surrounded by free columns and volutes. According to tradition, the ceiling painting of the castle chapel depicts the death of St. Marquard in a battle picture and was created around 1773. In the chapel there is a from Solnhofen stone -made Epitaph for Adolf Reichlin of Meldegg († 1797). This is called M. Schuler fecit .
