The Burgstall Falken , also called Heidelburg , is the remnant of a former hilltop castle on the Falken hill, northeast of Ittelsburg , a district of Bad Grönenbach in the Unterallgäu district in Bavaria . Only ditches and a few remains of the wall can be seen.

history

The original system dates back to the 10th century. The castle burned down in 1487 and from 1492 was owned by Heinrich von Rothenstein , a nephew of Konrad the Younger von Rothenstein. He was also the founder of the Rothenstein-Falken line. Heinrich von Rothenstein rebuilt the castle in 1496. In 1505 a new building was carried out under Achar and Gangolf von Rothenstein.

During the German Peasants' War in 1525, the castle was looted by the Allgäuer Haufen . It remained in the possession of the von Rothenstein family until 1562 . After that, with the end of the Rothenstein-Falken line due to the death of Hans Heinrich in 1562, it passed into the possession of his relative Christoph von Bollstädt and was conquered by the prince monastery of Kempten . In 1571 the prince gave falcons to Heinrich von Stein zu Niederstotzingen. In the years from 1642 to 1692 the castle was a charitable maintenance office.

After the secularization in 1803, the post keeper Dodel owned the castle. In 1821 the facility was demolished by its owner at the time. The Burgstall Falken is a listed building.
