Vöhlin Castle in Frickenhausen

The former Frickenhausen Castle is located in Frickenhausen , a district of the municipality of Lauben in the Unterallgäu district in Bavaria . The castle was built in the 16th century by Bartholomäus Wegmann on behalf of the Memmingen patrician family Vöhlin . The year 1578 can be found on the garden gate . From 1789 it was used as a rectory and is now privately owned. It is a listed building.

Building description

The castle is a three-storey building with a gabled roof covered. There are three windows on each side of the upper floor. Dormitories are located on both sides of the eaves. The mid-houses are also covered with a gable roof. There is a round tower with a pointed hood on both the south-east and north-west corners . The dungeon of the former castle is located in the basement of the north-western round tower. There are three toilet bays on the east side of the castle. A barrel vault is located in the rooms on the ground floor. The so-called knight's hall in the attic was not set up until the third quarter of the 18th century. The stucco work on the ceiling in the knight's hall was made by Franz Xaver Zimmermann in 1763/1764. The coats of arms on the stucco ceiling show the coat of arms of the city of Memmingen and the lower hospital in the middle . Coats of arms of Memmingen patricians are in the corners of the knight's hall.
