ρ Persei ( Rho Persei , short ρ Per ) is a semi-regularly variable star in the constellation Perseus, almost 100 parsecs away . It is found immediately south of the well-known eclipsing star Algol . Its apparent visual brightness varies between a little over 3 and around 4 mag.

The star bears the historical proper name Gorgonea Tertia . Gorgonea Tertia is the third of the Gorgons .
