The James A. Rhodes State Office Tower , more commonly just Rhodes State Office Tower , is a skyscraper in Columbus , Ohio . It is 191 meters (629 feet ) high and has 41 floors. Since its completion in 1973, it has been the tallest building in the city and the fifth tallest in the state of Ohio behind the Key Tower , Terminal Tower , BP Tower in Cleveland, and the Great American Tower in Cincinnati .
The building serves the state of Ohio and currently offers jobs for 4,000 people. At the time of construction, the cost was estimated at $ 66 million. The name goes back to the longest-serving governor of Ohio, Jim Rhodes . The somewhat peculiar shape of the building is due to the decision to reduce the height, while the work was well advanced. Originally the building was supposed to be almost 46 meters higher.
The tower offers around 110,000 m² of office space. Among other things, the Ohio Supreme Court was housed here, but it moved to its own building in 2004. It was built right next to the historically significant LeVeque Tower, which is also the second tallest building in the city. "The Board of Trade Building" originally stood on the property and was demolished in 1969 to make way for the tower.
