The Terminal Tower is a skyscraper in Cleveland , Ohio, USA . It belongs to a building complex , the Tower City Center . The tower was not supposed to be inaugurated together with the complex until 1930, but the first tenants moved in as early as 1928, so this year can be considered the date of completion. At that time (1928) it was the second tallest building in the world after the Woolworth Building in New York. Apart from the skyscrapers in New York , the Terminal Tower remained the tallest skyscraper in the world until it was towered over by Lomonosov University in Moscow in 1953 .
A viewing platform is available, but is currently only open to visitors on weekends. The official justification for this is that the visitors would make the office workers nervous during working hours. Since 1930 the skyscraper has also been used as a lighthouse , with a stroboscope blinking at its top . Although the beacon became obsolete in the 1960s, the building is illuminated in different colors every night until today, e.g. B. white and red on the Polish national holiday , because there are many Polish immigrants in Cleveland and the surrounding area.
