The summit rises from a plateau overgrown with heather . Its secondary peaks are Black Mixen ( Welsh Micsen Du ), on which there is a transmission mast, the Drygarn Fawr and the Gorllwyn . The Radnor Forest ( Fforest Faesyfed ) is a wooded hunting area from which the Rhos-Fawr Mountains protrude.
In the south of the Rhos-Fawr are the Black Mountains .
Legend
According to a local legend, the locals built four churches around Radnor Forest to banish the last dragon still living in Wales to sleep here. The church names were Llanfihangel Cefnllys , Llanfihangel Rhydithon , Llanfihangel Nant Melan and Llanfihangel Cascob , all dedicated to the Archangel Michael the Dragon Slayer (Welsh Mihangel ). If even one of the churches is destroyed, the dragon will awaken and devastate the land.
