Rhys Pollock (born March 14, 1980 in Sydney ) is an Australian cyclist .

Career

Pollock, who grew up in Sydney, started riding BMX at an early age . He came to mountain biking via BMX . In 1998 he won the silver medal at the Australian U19 Mountain Bike Championship and thus got a starting place for Australia at the 1998 Mountain Bike World Championships in Calgary . The following year, 1999, he won the national U23 championship and finished eighth in the elite. In two subsequent starts in the Mountain Bike World Cup in Sydney and Belgium, he was not placed in the front. He also failed to win a medal at the 1999 Mountain Bike World Championships in Åre , Sweden . After gaining initial experience in road racing in 2000, he decided to concentrate fully on road racing after an injury break and thus gave up his mountain bike career.

Pollock started with the Pedale d'Alsace team in 2003 . In two years with this team, he achieved a total of 19 top 10 placements, five podium places and one victory. In September 2004 he switched to the UNO team . For the 2005 season he signed a contract with the UCI Continental Team Marco Polo Cycling . In 2007 he got a contract with the Professional Continental Team Driving Force Logistics before returning to the Marco Polo Cycling Team just a year later. This year he won the North German Championship in Oberhausen and the Berlare Tour. In 2009 he switched to Team Drapac (2009 to 2010 Drapac Porsche Cycling ). In 2010 he won the Melbourne to Warrnambool Cycling Classic and a stage of the Tour of Tasmania .
