After the war around 1948, Engelbert Strauss continued his family's trading tradition and founded the company of the same name. He added occupational safety items to the range. The first products were gloves, which are still part of the range today. In the 1960s, the company switched to mail order. The company started shipping catalogs in 1973. Gradually, the range was expanded to include clothing and shoes.

The third and fourth generation run the family business together today. Engelbert's son Norbert Strauss and his sons Steffen and Henning Strauss are managing directors. The company employs 1,300 people.
