The Tasmania Tour is an Australian stage race in road cycling .
history
The Tasmania Tour was first held in 1930; The winner was the Australian cycling star Hubert Opperman . The next event took the form of two tours only 24 years later, in 1954, as "The Mercury Tour of Tasmania" and "The Examiner Tour of the North". The "Mercury Tour" was discontinued after ten events, while the "Examiner Tour" was carried out until 1991. Since 1996 the tour has been called the “Tour of Tasmania” and has been held with interruptions.
Others
The Tasmania Tour is now an important stepping stone for Australian cyclists who want to race internationally. The winners include the 2011 Tour de France winner , Cadel Evans , and the multiple track cycling world champion Cameron Meyer .
