Remo Sansonetti

Remo Sansonetti (born January 24, 1946 in Raiano , L'Aquila Province , Italy ) is a former Italian - Australian cyclist .

In 1960 Remo Sansonetti's family emigrated with him and his four brothers from Italy to Australia. There Remo and his twin brother Sal Sansonetti started competitive cycling .

In 1971 Remo Sansonetti went back to Italy with his brother Sal. In Milan , they won the six-day amateurs race, having previously won the Melbourne one . Remo qualified for the Italian national team to take part in the road world championships.

The brothers later returned to Australia. In 1974 Remo Sansonetti won the bronze medal in the road race at the British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch, New Zealand . In 1974, 1975 and 1976 he won the Tasmania Tour ; In 1975 all five Sansonetti brothers took part in this tour. In 1973, 1975 and 1976 Remo Sansonetti, who was the captain of the national road team for many years, became the Australian champion in the amateur road race and in 1976 won the Australian one-day race Grafton - Inverell .

Sansonetti competed three times for Australia at the Olympic Games, 1972 in Munich , 1976 in Montreal and 1980 in Moscow. He drove in various disciplines on the road and rail , but without medal success. In 1982 he won the silver medal in the team time trial at the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane , with Ricky Flood , John Waters and Michael Lynch . He then ended his cycling career.

Remo Sansonetti lives in Melbourne, where he runs an engineering office with his brother Arch. On Sunday mornings, he meets with his brothers and friends for a training trip called the “Sansonetti Express”, to which drivers from other Australian states make their own trips.
