The 1974 British Commonwealth Games were the tenth edition of the event now known as the Commonwealth Games . They took place from January 24th to February 2nd, 1974 in the New Zealand city ​​of Christchurch .

121 competitions were held in the following sports: badminton , bowls , boxing , weightlifting , athletics , cycling , wrestling , shooting and swimming (including diving ). 1276 athletes from 38 countries took part. The main competition site was Queen Elizabeth II Park .

On the occasion of these games, television broadcasts in color were the first time in New Zealand.
