Patrick Bevin (born May 2, 1991 ) is a New Zealand road cyclist .
Athletic career
In 2009 Patrick Bevin won the bronze medal in the individual time trial and gold in the road race at the Oceania Championships in Australia in the junior class ; in the Tour of Southland , he won two stages. In 2012 he won the Univest Grand Prix , in 2014 two stages of An Post Rás and the New Zealand Championship in the Kriterium , his first national title. In 2015 he won the REV Classic as well as stages of the Herald Sun Tour , the Tour de Taiwan and the Tour de Korea . At the Herald Sun Tour and the Tour de Korea he also finished second in the overall standings. The following year he was New Zealand time trial champion. In the same year he was successful for the first time in a team time trial on the Czech Cycling Tour .
In 2018 Bevin finished fourth in the Tour of Britain . In the same year he was part of the BMC Racing Team , which won the team time trials of Tirreno-Adriatico and the Tour de France . With this team he won bronze in the team time trial at the 2018 road world championships. In the individual time trial , he finished eighth.
After he scored his first victory in the UCI WorldTour at the Tour Down Under 2019 with his stage win in the uphill sprint of the second stage , Bevin became a "tragic figure": He led the overall standings up to the fifth and penultimate stage, then he fell together other drivers ten kilometers from the finish. He finished the stage and then had to be taken to the hospital. Nevertheless, he took part in the last stage, ultimately only finished 41st, but won the points classification .
