Rhys Muir Thomas (born July 31, 1982 in South Africa ) is a Welsh rugby union player . He plays as a pillar for the Welsh national team and the Scarlets .

Thomas began his career at Newport RFC , where he played two seasons before moving to regional selection Gwent Dragons. He made his national team debut against Argentina in 2006. Due to heart problems, he rarely appeared in the following year. When he should be considered again for Wales, he was seriously injured and was only used sporadically.

Thomas left the Dragons at the end of the 2008/09 season and switched to the Scarlets. There he signed a three-year deal worth £ 500,000.
