Ri Mi-gyong (born September 30, 1990 in Kangwŏn-do ) is a North Korean table tennis player . She took part in the Olympic Games in 2012 .

Career

She had her first international appearance in 2011 at the World Championships in Rotterdam , where she was among the best 64 and then eliminated against Guo Yue . The following year she competed at the China Open and was part of the North Korean team at the World Cup and Olympic Games , which reached the main round. In the world rankings , Ri reached a place in the top 100 for the first time in April 2012. In 2013, she competed in all three individual competitions at the World Cup , in doubles with Ri Myong-sun , she reached the second round. In October she reached 44th place, a personal record in the world rankings.

With the team she reached the quarter-finals at the 2014 World Cup , which were lost to China , and at the Asian Games, the team won bronze. In 2015, Ri took part in the World Team Cup, where she reached the final as part of the North Korean team, which was lost again to China. At the side of Kim Hye-song she won the double competition of the Asian Cup by beating Miu Hirano and Mima Itō in the final . At the 2016 Team World Cup , North Korea won the first World Cup medal since 1991. In the quarter-finals, the North Koreans surprisingly beat the former world champions from Singapore. She also took part in the 2016 Olympic Games with the team , where North Korea was eliminated from China in the quarter-finals. In 2017 Ri was nominated by the association for the Asian and World Cups and made it to the quarter-finals and the second round in doubles. After the Pyongyang Open, where she won silver in doubles, she did not appear internationally for the time being.
