Riaba is a city in the Republic of Equatorial Guinea on the island of Bioko . It is located on the east coast of the island in the province of Bioko Sur and is the capital of the Riaba district.

In 2005 Riaba had 1,071 inhabitants, making it the fifth largest city on the island of Bioko . In 1983 only around 200 people lived in Riaba.

The city was founded in 1779 as Concepción , it was the island's first capital. At the beginning of the 20th century, cattle ready for slaughter began to be driven from the highlands around Moka to the beach of Riaba and from here to be shipped to Malabo. With the wave of renaming after independence, it was named Riaba after a chief of the Bubi .

Infrastructure

The city can be reached by car from Malabo on a road running southeast over Rebola and Baney. From here there is another connection to Luba on the west coast. A little north of the city is the COPE bridge, which opened in 1973, and with its view is a sight of Bioko.
