Riccardo Hellmuth Seidl

Riccardo Zario Hellmuth Seidl (also Riccardo Helmut Seidl , born April 19, 1904 in Naples , † September 27, 1941 at La Galite ) was an Italian pilot .

His family originally came from Bavaria . He took part in the Second World War as an officer in the Italian Air Force . Seidl distinguished himself in numerous torpedo attacks on the British fleet in the Mediterranean. He was killed in one of these attacks in the Tunisian Galite Islands in September 1941 .

Seidl was awarded the highest military order in Italy.

The squadron he commanded during the war ( 36º Stormo ) is now based in Gioia del Colle ( Apulia ) and bears his name.
