from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Riccardo di Montecassino OSB († March 1, 1262 in Montecassino ) was an Italian Benedictine , Abbot of Montecassino and Cardinal of the Roman Church . Some sources confuse him with Riccardo Annibaldi († 1276).

Life

He joined the order of the Benedictines in the monastery of Montecassino . In 1252 he was abbot of the Benedictine mother monastery.

Between August 17, 1255 and February 1, 1256, Pope Alexander IV made him cardinal priest of San Ciriaco alle Terme . However, because he had participated in the coronation of the Sicilian King Manfred , whom the Pope regarded as a usurper , Riccardo was removed from his offices on August 10, 1259 by Alexander IV. Thanks to King Manfred's protection, Riccardo retained his position as Abbot of Montecassino. At the end of 1261 he is said to have been a cardinal proto-priest .

Riccardo di Montecassino died in 1262 in the Montecassino Abbey and was buried there.
