The Rich Kids on LSD (RKL) were a California hardcore band that was founded in 1982 in Santa Barbara . Their music developed over the years from pure West Coast hardcore to a mix of hardcore with rock elements. This style of music made RKL known in the European scene, especially among skateboarders in the 1980s and 1990s.

history

About the name of the band, singer Jason Sears said in an interview with Thrasher magazine in 2002:

"It happened that some guy said, 'Ha, those kids will never be anything, they're just a bunch of rich kids on LSD, man.' The first party we played we didn't have a name for the band, so we put that one on the flyer and it just stuck. "

("There came a guy who said, 'Ha, these guys will never be anything, they're just a bunch of rich kids on LSD.' At the first party we played at, we didn't have a name for the band, so we just did put it on the flyer and it stuck in my head. '")

The changing line-up of the band largely overlaps with the punk band Lagwagon, also from California . Four of the five current (as of 2019) band members of Lagwagon were also active at RKL: Chris Rest, Joe Raposo, Dave Raun and Chris Flippin. In addition, Derrick Plourde was drummer at Lagwagon before his brief stint at RKL.
