Richard Gotthold K. Bräutigam (born July 25, 1891 in Wittenberg ; † unknown) was a German municipal official. He was archive and library director and most recently headed the statistical office of the city of Halle / Saale .

Life

He was the son of the accountant and railway chief inspector Richard Bridegroom and his wife Minna nee Landgrave. After attending secondary school in Leipzig , he switched to the humanistic high school in Eisenach . His parents also let him attend grammar school in Hildburghausen and the cathedral grammar school in Naumburg (Saale) . He then studied German, history, classical philosophy and theology at the Universities of Leipzig and Halle.

In the years 1916 & 17 Richard Bräutigam did patriotic service and in 1919 became a student trainee. He studied law and political science in Halle at the same time and became a study assessor in 1920. Due to his need to continue his scientific studies, Richard Bräutigam took a leave of absence from the Prussian civil service a little later. In the following year he moved to local government and became a scientific assistant at the statistical office and housing office of the city of Halle (Saale). In 1926 he was appointed director of the housing department in Halle. In 1933 he was promoted to municipal director and headed the city archive and the city libraries in Halle until 1945. As city archives director, he was appointed the state Prussian archivist for the Halle district in 1937. He was scientifically active, gave lectures on the history of the city and presented several publications. After the end of the Second World War he took over as head of the statistical office in Halle.

Richard Bräutigam had been a member of the NSDAP since April 1933 (membership no. 2.784.061). After the Second World War he became a member of the SED . He was also a member of the Municipal Housing Association before 1945.
