Richard Canal
Richard Canal (born on August 16, 1953 in Tarascon-sur-Ariège , Département Ariège ) is a French writer and computer scientist . He is known as an author of science fiction , whose works have been awarded the Grand Prix de l'Imaginaire and the Prix Rosny aîné , among others .
Life
Canal received his doctorate in 1978 with a thesis on the complexity of combinatorial logic at Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse . Since then he has been a lecturer in computer science specializing in artificial intelligence , multi-agent systems and genetic algorithms . Teaching assignments in Asia and Africa led to stays in Vietnam and Laos and Senegal , Cameroon and Tunisia for several years .
In 1982 Canal published a first SF short story Préméditation in Extraordinaire magazine . In 1986 the first novel La Malédiction de l'éphémère was published by La Découverte . In 1986 he won the price of the Franco-Canadian SF magazine Solaris for his story CHOIX . In 1994 and 1995 the second and third volumes of the Africain novel trilogy were awarded the Prix Rosny aîné. The trilogy appeared in J'ai lu's science fiction series, with cover art by Caza .
In 1998, Canals' first detective novel La Route de Mandalay appeared , which, like the following , is attributed to the French tradition of Roman noir . Cyberdanse macabre followed in 1999 as part of a series of scientific thrillers by various authors with the common protagonist Mark Sidzik. Gandhara was last published in 2018 . L'équilibre du has been announced for 2019 .
Canal's novels have been translated into Romanian and Bulgarian . German translations are not available.
