Richard Dark

Richard Dunkel (born August 24, 1869 in Bremen ; † May 6, 1939 in Huchting) was a Bremen businessman and politician (DDP).

biography

Dunkel was the son of a building contractor in Bremen and the nephew of the architect Albert Dunkel . He attended high school in Bremen. After a commercial apprenticeship, he worked for a travel company in Rangoon , Burma, from 1892 to 1899 . In 1899 he became an employee and managing director of the Central Administration of Gas, Water and Electricity Works GmbH in Bremen.

From 1912 to 1918 he was a member of the Bremen citizenship for the merchant class . In 1918 he joined the liberal German Democratic Party (DDP) and was elected to the Bremen national assembly on March 9, 1919 and to the Bremen citizenship on July 6, 1920. He was President of the National Assembly and President of the Citizenship until 1930. As president of the mayor, he was held in high regard by the opposition parties. In the 1930s he withdrew from politics and devoted himself to his professional tasks in the central administration of gas, water and electricity supplies .

Since 1909 he has lived in his dark villa in Huchting, An der Höhpost 9, with a 1.5 hectare park.

Honors

Richard-Dunkel-Strasse in the Neustadt of Bremen is named after him.
