Richard Durrance
Richard "Dick" Durrance (born October 14, 1914 in Tarpon Springs , Florida, † June 13, 2004 in Carbondale , Colorado, USA) was a 17-time American ski winner and one of the first American skiers to was able to successfully compete with European skiers.
Dick Durrance moved to Garmisch with his family in 1928 . In Germany Durrance won the German Junior Alpine Ski Championship in 1932. In the following year he learned from Anton Seelos in Seefeld the parallel swing he had developed . He attended the 1934 Dartmouth College in New Hampshire , winning in Sestriere ( Italy ) the first American to a major European skiing. Durrance also won the US Men's Downhill , Slalom and Alpine-related events in 1937 and was inducted into the US Olympic Team in 1936 . He finished eighth in the slalom race and eleventh in the downhill race.
