Sir Richard FitzWilliam of Wadsworth († 1478 ) was an English knight .

Life

Sir Richard FitzWilliam was a son of Edmund FitzWilliam.

Sir Richard served as sheriff of Yorkshire in 1465, 1468 and of Lincolnshire in 1468/69. He received from Edward IV in 1461 the right to hunt (English. Free warren ) for Ulaby near Alford , was appointed Constable of Conisbrough Castle and in 1462 served as Justice of Peace in the West Riding of Yorkshire .

An uncompromising supporter of the House of York , he fought at the Battle of Northampton (1460), Wakefield (1460), and the Battle of Losecote Field (1470) during the Wars of the Roses .

Sir Richard FitzWilliam died on September 22, 1478 and was buried in the Austin Friars Convent in Tickhill .
