Richard Fydell

Richard Fydell (* around 1709 ; † April 11, 1780 ) was a British wine merchant and politician .

Richard Fydell was the son of the London brewery entrepreneur Robert Fydell. He attended Charterhouse School and Trinity College at the University of Cambridge .

In 1733 Fydell bought Fydell House in Boston , Lincolnshire . The house had belonged to his uncle Joseph Fydell († 1731). Richard Fydell now built a reputation as a wine merchant and became active in city politics. In the years 1739, 1753 and 1776 he held the office of Mayor of Boston. His uncle and grandfather William Fydell had already held this position.

From 1734 to 1741 he represented the Boston constituency in the British House of Commons . In 1745 he became a judge at the Admiralty Court in Boston.

In January 1739 he married Elizabeth Hall. The marriage resulted in three sons and six daughters. His son Thomas Fydell (politician, 1740) and grandson Thomas Fydell (politician, 1773) later also became members of the House of Commons.
