Richard John Tarrant

Richard John Tarrant (* 1945 in Brooklyn ) is an American classical philologist .

Life

He studied at Fordham University (BA 1966) and Corpus Christi College , Oxford ( DPhil 1972). He taught at the University of Toronto from 1970 to 1982 before moving to Harvard University . There he has been the Pope Professor of Latin Literature since 1993.

His main interests are Latin literature (mainly, but not exclusively, poetry), Roman drama (mainly the tragedies of Seneca ), and the history of transmission and the editing of ancient Latin texts.
