Richard Lange (nature lover)

Richard Lange , called Mäuse-Doktor or Mäuse-Professor , (born March 10, 1888 in Altchemnitz , † September 3, 1969 ) was a German teacher , a friend of nature and homeland. He was a pioneer of ornithology in the Chemnitz area and the northern Ore Mountains .

Life

Lange was born in the then still independent community of Altchemnitz near Chemnitz . He attended school and then took up a teacher training course. In 1924 he became chairman of the Chemnitz Ornithologists Association , which he headed until shortly before the end of the Second World War in 1944. At the beginning of the 1930s he also took over the chairmanship of the Chemnitz animal welfare association , which he also headed until 1944. During this time he has u. a. started the planned bird protection work in the Chemnitz area by installing countless nesting boxes.

In 1944 he was transferred from Chemnitz to Königswalde as a teacher, where he worked from then on. There he was one of the first activists and became a member of the SED . He built a new school in Königswalde, the director of which he became a senior teacher. In Königswalde he also founded the people's and women's choir, both of which he directed as a conductor. He also founded the local branch of the Kulturbund for the democratic renewal of Germany there . He was also a member of the community, local chronicle and volunteer nature conservation worker and mushroom adviser. His special passion was researching the small mammals native to the Ore Mountains, especially the various types of mice. Hence his nickname mentioned above.

At the old age of 75, Richard Lange attended an ornithology course in Müritzhof . Projections have shown that it volunteered around 25,000 birds during its lifetime.

From 1932 to 1945 Richard Lange was the honorary biological director of the bird sanctuary located in Scharfenstein .
