Max Richard Schneider (born August 12, 1876 in Crottendorf ; † February 26, 1941 ibid) was a German farmer , Saxon politician of the KPD and functionary of the Federation of Schaffender Landwirte (BsL).

biography

The son of a small farmer initially hired himself out as a farm worker and in 1912 took over his father's six-hectare farm in Crottendorf. During the First World War , Schneider fought as a soldier from 1914 to 1918. The impoverishment of small farmers caused by the German inflation made Schneider accessible to communist ideas. In 1924 he joined the Federation of Working Farmers and became its district chairman in the Erzgebirge-Vogtland the following year. In 1926 Schneider became a member of the KPD and subsequently belonged to the Crottendorfer municipal council and the Annaberg district council as a representative of the communists.

In 1929 Schneider was elected to the Saxon state parliament. There he was responsible for agricultural issues in the KPD parliamentary group during the 4th and 5th electoral periods until 1933. From 1932 onwards, Schneider was also a member of the Reich leadership of the Confederation of Working Farmers.

After the National Socialists seized power in March 1933, Schneider was first taken to Annaberg prison as a “protective prisoner” and then imprisoned in the Colditz concentration camp until the summer of 1934 . After his release he returned to his farm in Crottendorf, marked by imprisonment, and died in 1941 as a result of the abuse.

Honors

After the Second World War , a park in Crottendorf was redesigned into a grove of honor for the victims of fascism and a stone memorial for tailors with a slab path was created, which was the destination of torchlight procession and wreath-laying in September each year. In the course of the restoration of the overgrown park, the monument and the slab path were removed in 1991.

The Polytechnic Oberschule Crottendorf received the honorary name "Richard Schneider" during the GDR times.

Today Richard-Schneider-Straße in Crottendorf commemorates the politician.
