The Richmond Range is a mountain range in the Canterbury region of the South Island of New Zealand .
geography
The Richmond Range is located east of Lake Tekapo , between the lake and the Two Thumb Range that surrounds the mountain range to the north, east and south . Four peaks of the mountain range, which has a north-south extension over a length of 8 km, have a height of over 2000 m , of which the highest peak measures a height of 2163 m . Numerous small brooks unite to form streams on the west side and carry their waters to Lake Tekapo .
At the foot of the west side of the mountain range runs the Te Araroa Trail , which begins at the mouth of the Boundary Stream in Lake Tekapo and continues north over the Coal River and Camp Stream Hut further north.
Administratively, the Richmond Range is part of the Mackenzie District .
Conservation Park
The Richmond Range is part of Te Kahui Kaupeka Conservation Park , which is administered by the Department of Conservation .
