Rick Lowe

Rick Lowe (* 1961 in Eufaula , Alabama ) is an American artist of social practice art .

life and work

Rick Lowe attended Columbus College (1979–1982) and studied art at Texas Southern University in Houston. In 2016 he became an Associate Professor of Art at the University of Houston (UH). He is currently “Professor of Interdisciplinary Practice” at the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts (KGMCA), which is part of the University of Applied Sciences. He lives in Houston .

Lowe is a co-founder of the Row Houses project, which began in 1993 . This involves a long-term conversion of shotgun houses in the Third Ward near Houston , which are used, among other things, as a temporary residence for artists. Other projects include the Watts House Project in Los Angeles, a project to rebuild after Katrina in New Orleans, and a community market in a densely populated neighborhood in North Dallas where the majority of residents have a migrant background .
