The Riddle Lake is a small lake in Yellowstone National Park , southwest of Yellowstone Lake . It has no major tributaries, the banks are partly wooded, partly marshy and overall very flat. In the western part in particular, there are extensive transition zones between meadows, swamps and flat parts of the lake. The landscape surrounding the lake does not show any great differences in height, the vegetation is a mixture of meadows and forests of different ages. The Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout is found in the lake .

The lake is only accessible on foot via a hiking trail from the main road through the park .

The lake is slightly oval, its length is around 1.1 km, the maximum width is 0.8 km and the area around 0.7 km².

It was given its name in 1872 when the material from the Hayden expedition was reworked . The name is said to go back that the lake due to its location near the continental divide its discoverers the riddle (ger .: riddle ) gave, in which ocean it would dehydrate. The outflow of the lake in the Yellowstone Lake was discovered in 1878 and was named Solution Creek because he the solution (ger .: solution represented) the puzzle.
