Rieclachan was a whiskey distillery in Campbeltown , Kintyre , Argyll and Bute , Scotland . The brandy produced was therefore assigned to the Campbeltown whiskey region .

history

The distillery was founded in 1825 by J. Ferguson , J. Harvey , A. Mitchell and A. Wylie and was on Longrow , the town's main drag , between the Campbeltown and Glengyle distilleries . The Mitchell family of distillers ran the business until it closed in 1934. Rieclachan was the penultimate of 18 distilleries that closed in Campbeltown between 1921 and 1936. With the abandonment of the Benmore distillery in 1936, a whiskey distillery in Campbeltown was closed for the last time. The distillery's warehouses in particular have been partially preserved to this day.

When Alfred Barnard visited the distillery on his major whiskey tour in 1885, it had an annual production capacity of 70,000  gallons . A coarse bladder ( wash still ) and a fine bladder ( spirit still ) with capacities of 2139 and 1600 gallons respectively were available.
