The reed chapel for Our Lady of Sorrows on the Mountain is a listed, former Joseph chapel on a hill southeast above the Ostallgäu community of Friesenried .

Interior with copy of the stolen Pieta

As a previous building, a wooden Joseph chapel was built on the mountain in 1686, but it then fell into disrepair. In 1720, in fulfillment of a vow, Magnus Groß built a wooden chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows , which in turn was replaced by a stone building in 1812. In 1912 the chapel was heavily changed as part of a renovation, so the building was raised, an arcade was added and a ridge tower was added.

In the course of a renovation in 1946, the interior was redesigned by the Munich professor Karl Baur . The focus was on a crucifixion group executed in rural style with the Pietà "Our Lady of Sorrows in the Parlor", which was stolen in 1970. There is currently a copy of the Pietà made in 1988 by Georg Bergmeier from Friesenried based on old images in the chancel.

On the occasion of the last renovation in 1989–91, citizens donated a new bell in 1992.
