Hippalus is an impact crater in the southwest of the front of the moon between Mare Humorum and Mare Nubium , south of Agatharchides and northwest of Campanus . The crater is largely flooded by the lavas of the Mare, the rim of the crater has completely disappeared in the south-western part.

The ridge system of the Rimae Hippalus runs through the crater and to the east of it in wide arches following the curvature of the edge of the Mare Humorum . One of the main grooves runs through the center of the crater.
