Rimantas Smetona
Rimantas Smetona (born March 28, 1945 in Užulėnis , Ukmergė district ) is a Lithuanian politician.
biography
His father was the son of the brother Ignas of the Lithuanian President Antanas Smetona .
In 1965 he graduated from the technical center for agricultural mechanization in Ukmergė and in 1977 he graduated as a director at the Institute for Theater, Music and Cinematography in Leningrad . From 1967 to 1972 he worked at Lietuvos kino studija and from 1972 to 1991 at Valstybinis Lietuvos radijo ir televizijos komitetas (now LRT). From 1996 to 2000 and from 2004 to 2012 he was a member of the Seimas . He was a candidate in the presidential election.
From 1990 to 1997 he headed Lietuvių tautininkų sąjunga , from 1997 to 2001 Nacionaldemokratinio judėjimo už nepriklausomą Lietuvą ir Lietuvos nacionaldemokratų partija . From 2003 to 2004 he was a member of Valstiečių ir Naujosios democijos partijų sąjunga and since 2008 of Tvarka ir teisingumas .
He and his wife Aldona have daughters Jurgita and Milda.
