Rinus Ferdinandusse

Rinus Ferdinandusse (born November 28, 1931 in Goes ) is a Dutch author and journalist . From 1969 to 1996 he was editor-in-chief of the political weekly newspaper (since the 1990s magazine) Vrij Nederland .

Life

Born in the province of Zeeland , Ferdinandusse lived from 1938–1956 in The Hague , the seat of government of the Netherlands in the province of South Holland . In 1952 he founded the "Haags Studentencabaret", which was before his student days, as he first served in the Dutch army from 1952 to 1954, where he was promoted to corporal . In 1954 Ferdinandusse took over the management of the cabaret and continued to hold it after his studies were long over.

Ferdinandusse did not graduate from a course he started at the University of Amsterdam at the (at that time) so-called "Zevende Faculteit" (seventh faculty, responsible for socio-political sciences). From 1958 to 1961 he was editor of the local student magazine Propria Cures . Following this, Ferdinandusse was together with Jan Blokker , Joop van Tijn and other editors on the satirical program "Zo is het toevallig ook nog eens een keer", which was broadcast by the VARA radio company from 1963 to 1966 .

In 1959 Ferdinandusse became an employee of the newspaper Vrij Nederland , the pub stories he published there were also to be found in four anthologies starting in 1964 with the book "Neem er eentje van mij". In 1969 he succeeded Mathieu Smedts, who had resigned, as editor-in-chief . This had helped the ailing newspaper to its new size. Under Ferdinandusse, Vrij Nederland was one of the leading newspapers of the left in the Netherlands, at least in the 1970s. Even though it lost some of its circulation after 1978, it remained a successful medium until he left as editor-in-chief in 1996. From 1991 he shared the editor-in-chief with Joop van Tijn, in his last days he was still converting from a newspaper to a magazine.

In addition to his work as an editor, Ferdinandusse also appeared as a successful crime novelist. He invented the freelance journalist Rutger Maria Lemming as one of his main characters, the 1966 book "Naakt over de schutting" was finally filmed in 1973 by Frans Weisz. Since 1980 Vrij Nederland has published the "VN Detective en Thrillergids" (crime and thriller guide) initiated by Ferdinandusse every year.

In 1993 Ferdinandusse was chairman of the jury of the " Nederlandse Filmdagen " (from 1994 on " Nederlands Film Festival "). Since 2002 Ferdinandusse has chaired the film festival "Film by the sea", which takes place annually in Vlissingen .
