The Rio Preto Esporte Clube is a Brazilian football club from São José do Rio Preto in the state of São Paulo . The club's mascot is a spectacled caiman and a rivalry is shared with local neighbor América FC .

history

Although a club with a history of over a hundred years, the men's team of the Rio Preto EC has traditionally remained inferior. The promotion to the top division (Série A1) of the state championship of São Paulo 2007 marks the greatest success so far, but after only one season in 2008 the immediate relegation to the second division followed. In 2012 the club was relegated to the third national league, but in 2016 it completed its promotion to the second division. The team has not yet qualified for the Brazilian national championship or the cup competition .

Women's soccer

The women's football division of the Rio Preto EC was founded in 2008 and won the Brazilian championship in 2015. In spring 2019, the section was dissolved for cost reasons.

Venues

Rio Preto's first home was the Estádio Coronel Victor Brito Bastos in the Redentora district. The building site was donated to the association in 1924 by the local patron of the same name, which is why the stadium was named in his honor. A fair had previously been held at his location.

In 1965, the club sold its old stadium in order to acquire new building land for a new stadium in the neighboring district of Universitária, today Jardim Aclimação. On April 21, 1968, the new stadium was inaugurated, which was named after the former club president Anísio Haddad.
